General Information: Paladins are holy warriors who represent the best aspects of the knightly code of honor among human kingdoms and tribes. Traditionally paladins serve their culture and countrymen as errant fighters protecting the innocent and bringing wrath upon evil forces. While it is very common to see a paladin as a noble knight on a steed, PC’s are encouraged to explore other cultural patterns. Not all paladins are bound to the ‘Aurthurian’ concept of ‘knight in shining armor’ – tribal paladins from more wild areas have also taken up the cause of law and goodness. Some paladins are non-traditional, using (as examples) clubs or bows over the lance and sword. All human cultures can produce a paladin, so traditional weaponry is often used. Player characters are required to establish a basic history and cultural grounding if they select the paladin class.
Religion: All paladins receive power from a god-head (or goddess) and a religious/spiritual relationship must be established. All paladins will declare a ‘faith’ to a particular god/goddess, but may also draw power from other Lawful Good deities in the same mythos. Paladins are subject to paths of honor and justice. Many gods bestow power to blessed warriors who seek the path of the paladin. Alignment restrictions apply – all paladins will be Lawful Good and must select an corresponding deity of same alignment from whence they draw their special powers.
